The Competition

Scotland’s Only Wheelchair Rugby Competition

Glasgow is friendly city with a vibrant nightlife, and for those with us with disabilities it has accessaible transport as well as an abundance of accessible accommodation. Now, with the up and coming Commonwealth games promoting the construction of new sporting facilities, Glasgow is looking to become more even more sport-oriented and inclusive.

Wanting to make the most of our hometown and the excellent facilities at the Emirates Arena, in September 2013 we hosted our very own ‘Crushers Cup’ tournament. The two-day inaugural competition welcomed six other teams from around the UK and Ireland to join us in playing a total of twelve hard fought games over a weekend.

Those teams that took part were Leicester Tigers, North East Bulls, Leicester Marauders, Ulster Barbarians, and the eventual winners, The Gaelic Warriors. The commitment and effort displayed by all the teams was clear to see and was immensely enjoyed by the large number of appreciative and vocal spectators.

Going forward, we hope that the Crushers Cup will become a permanent fixture in the wheelchair rugby calendar, attracting more teams from even further afield.
