I have used a wheelchair all my life and have alway been very active. I used to go Horse Riding at the RDA when I was at school, and also played wheelchair tennis. Before I started playing for the Crushers I had never been involved in any team sports at all.
I was working out in the gym at the Emirates & my personal trainer told me that the Crushers trained at the Emirates too and he thought I’d like it. I’d seen Wheelchair Rugby at the London 2012 Paralympics, so I knew about the sport, however it took me a while to build up the courage to go in to see a training session. I’m so glad I did!
I started playing in the summer 2016 and I absolutely love training and playing with the Crushers. I feel stronger both physically and mentally since I started playing. I look forward to Tuesday evening training and our tournaments so much – it’s great fun and the team are a good laugh.
Most people have heard of wheelchair rugby now, and it has a pretty hard core reputation. Being able to say I play in a mixed team, scoring points & smashing it for the Crushers is awesome. Being brave enough to go in and meet everyone that first time was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!
